Phoronix News: Brewin Denounces GPL Solaris @ JavaOne
Computer World has published a very brief Q&A with Sun CTO Bob Brewin. Brewin's comments primarily focus on Java at JavaOne with all of the GPL code being on track for release before next month, but he does make an interesting comment about whether we will see a GPL-ized version of Solaris at JavaOne. Brewin states: "We haven't decided what we are going to do about that. JavaOne is the wrong place to do that... http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item&px=NTc0MQ |

Uh... Michael? How do read "denounces" into Mr. Brewin's remarks? Sure, GPLv2 is a non-starter for OpenSolaris. GPLv3 is different, and Sun has been actively involved in its development. But v3 ain't done yet. Yeah, its on its supposed final draft scheduled for approval in July. But that don't make it done: someone might still come up with a show-stopper gotcha 'tween now and then, and force the v3 process to be extended.
Meantime seems to me Sun neither endorses nor denounces that what don't yet exist. Thanks! |
