Default no transparency with fglrx?

The rounded corners on the window title bar and any apps that use skin looks awful because the the transparent areas are filled with random textures or just solid black.

Is this something to do with having Composite disabled?

I'm running dual monitor on FC6 with 8.29.06.

This and other issues like no AIGLX and pointer miss alignment with diff. res. dual monitor setups makes me want to go back to the open source driver except I could not get dual monitor to work at all there. Wish I had nvidia graphics in my notebook.

I don't believe there is much you can do other than wait for a corrected driver to be released (or switch to the open-source R300 drivers).
