Default Hi, need help finding and installing driver for X1600 (intel iMac)

Hi all,

I just installed FC6 on the C2D iMac. Right now it doesn't support the native 1440 x 900 resolution, and the screen looks kind of wash out.

I was trying to find the X1600 driver on ATI site, but there was no driver for the X1600. Could anyone help me find the right driver?

Thanks.

BlueApple,

The ATI display drivers are unified for their Radeon and FireGL products -- meaning a single driver package is compatible with all of their products (except for some of their older hardware such as the R200 class). The ATI fglrx package is now also combined for x86 and x86_64.

The ATI drivers can be downloaded from: https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...uestionID=3380

With the 8.29.6 display drivers see http://www.phoronix.com/redblog/?p=blog&i=NTU1MA for more information. Or you can wait for the next ATI driver release for having the install support built-in.

Thanks Michael, with the script and the working xorg.conf, I was able to install and setup the ATI driver.

However I have two problems. First, when I tried to open a .avi video file, it said the decoder is not installed. How do I fix it?

Second, do I have to repeat the procedures once a new version of kernel is available?

Thanks.

What media player are you using? I imagine Totem? If so, install mplayer from FreshRPMS.net and then install the codecs.

You need to repeat the installation process everytime you update your kernel and everytime a new driver is released (if you want). The 8.29.6 driver requires my script but all future ATI drivers will have the script merged.

If you have any additional questions don't hesitate to post.
