Hi, good folks over here at the phoronix forums...
I am slowly turning green over here trying to setup/install these darn Ati 8.28.8 drivers onto FC6. I have the same problem as jeffk here (at phoronix) except with an Ati 9100 IGP, still all the same, I have to use the 8.28.8 drivers. Well, the "story" goes like this, so far... 1.) If I try to install the drivers just plain and simple by running as root Code:
[root@studio ~]# sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.28.8.run visible errors in the console or anywhere and I go on into xorg.conf and change the device driver from "radeon" to "fglrx" and try to start X back up, it won't start up and Xorg.0.log gives me... Code:

3.) Then I came across an answare (from Michael)to a post here on phoronix, by jeffk, the one I linked to earlyer in this post and followed the instructions given there, extract the ati-installer and download some "firegl_public" code (firegl_public-fc6-legacy.tar) and replaced the code in /fglrx-install/common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/ with the one in the .tar file and then I am suposed to run the installer again with the --buildpkg parameter ...but how do I do that? ![]() I have tried both... Code:
In /fglrx-install/ sh ./make_install.sh Code:

Afterwards go to /lib/modules/fglrx and run './make_install.sh' in order to install the module into your kernel's module repository. (see readme.txt for more details.) As of now you can still run your XServer in 2D, but hardware accelerated OpenGL will not work and 2D graphics will lack performance. failed. Code:
In /fglrx-install/common/lib/modules/fglrx/build_mod/ sh ./make.sh Code:

At this point I have been at this, on and off, for three days and I don't realy know what I am doing anymore *laugh* and would very, very much appreciate any help. phyx,
Have you tried using the open-source Radeon drivers instead of the fglrx drivers? Since you are using an R200 component. Also, don't use the graphical installer for the drivers on Fedora... launch the terminal and change to the appropriate directory and then do ./ati-driver-name.run --buildpkg Fedora/FC6 and that will generate some RPMs to use. I can throw together a script to automate the Fedora 6 installation process for 8.28.8 drivers so you can use R200 components. I won't have time tonight, but check back tomorrow and I can probably post such a script to make your fglrx life easier. If you have any other questions just post. |

Well first of all, thanks for your very quick response Michael
![]() hmm.. no offence but I'm getting the feeling you didn't quite read through my first post, cause i think that would have answared one of your questions but well, well.. nm, here is a brand new, updated answer ![]() Quote:

And also, I'am not the only one having this particular problem, hence jeffk here on the phoronix ATi forum and then other posts I've seen around the 'net' and none of them has a solution or has just been solved by going out and buying a cheep nVidia card.. (wich btw, I am three steps away from doing myself right now, lol ) And a wild guess.. but I might think 'we' are only the begining, cause when FC4 FC5 users with theese particular "no longer suported by ATi" cards start upgrading to the spunky new fc6 they start running into exaclty the same, when they want to get direct rendering and more, enabled on their previously (FC1,2,3,4,5) very direct render enabled video cards... but thanks again, I hope to get an update from ya' tomorrow ![]() -phyx. |

well that was awesom, thanks alot.
I'am now able to build the RPMS but then I run into some dependencies issues when trying to install them, the kernel-module installs smoothly but the other three, the ATi driver, devel and the Ctrl. Panel have dependencies issues and just outputs... Code:

Easy fix.. this is the RPM you need: http://download.fedora.redhat.com/pu....3-61.i386.rpm
