Default ATI and the Xpress 200M

Does ATI test their drivers against the Xpress 200M chip with sideport/sideport+UMA? They have not issued a working driver since 8.24.

The current driver allows me to get to a desktop screen before it locks up. The issue is DRI, as if it is disabled, then the current fglrx driver will work.

Searching the net shows may are having problems with this chip, including windows users.

The ATI Xpress 200 series is very notorious with the Linux fglrx drivers. The open-source Radeon drivers do support the Xpress 200 series, but I believe there is some memory issues with that Chipset.

If they have that bad of a hardware issue, then maybe it's time for a class action suit and get ATI to buy back machines with theses chip and get us machines with Nvida or Intel video chips.

Default Re: ATI and the Xpress 200M

Hi,
I have version 8.29 of ATI drivers running with DRI on Xpress 200M (Compaq M2241EA notebook).
I have x86-64 FC6 and rpm.livna.org build fglrx rpm.

The only problem I have now - I'm not able to run system-config-display and when I want to switch on external monitor port by Fn-F4 keystroke X crashes.

Unfortunately there are no ATI 8.30 version rpm ready on livna, and I'm not able to build it by myself because of errors I get:
.
install: cannot stat `fireglcontrolpanel': No such file or director

I installed dev packages for qt and kernel and made the link as mentioned in the thread and it helped, rpm were created and now I have 8.30 running.
But still system-config-display does not work properly.

Are you able to use aticonfig then for your additional display changes, or what now are you using system-config-display for?

Less of a hardware problem and more of a manpower issue, I suspect...

If you file a report to ATI on Linix drivers on a laptop, the standard response is that they do not support laptops.
