Phoronix: Mir Works On Screencasting, Parallelized Page Flipping

While Mir is not going to premiere in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and might not even be ready for Ubuntu 14.10, upstream development of this next-generation display server for Ubuntu to compete with Wayland is still being developed at full-speed...

        The cases are totally different.

The "Mir haters" must understand that Wayland isn't a display server. No DE will adopt Wayland as his display server. The DEs teams will build a display server that will implement Wayland protocol.
Weston it's the reference implementation, but isn't the intent to be used.
KDE team will adapt (or build a new) kwin to implement wayland protocol and GNOME team will do the same with mutter.

The difference between kwin, mutter and mir that mir not implement wayland protocol. But they devs already said that it not so hard to do this.

So, Mir will be the display server for Unity 8 (just like compiz is for unity 7), and will be for the future. What can happen that they may implement the wayland protocol in the future.

ps: Even Google can adapt the displayflinger to implement wayland (but that I think that will not happen)

          To summarize
Mir will be implemented when Unity 8 is implemented.
          Mir would be replacing compiz.
Mir will also be replacing Xorg/xserver - along with a compatibility layer of course.
Wayland could still be the display protocol for Mir.

I'm pretty sure unity 8 does not use compiz, but not 100% sure.

Mir doesn't use Compiz because it's not compatible with the specific Xorg hooks that Compiz relies on.
Compiz will never be used in a post X world.
