    Phoronix: Unigine Heaven & Valley Now Run Well On Radeon Gallium3D

    I must say I am rather impressed with both Unigine Heaven and Unigine Valley finally running well -- and with decent speed -- when using the open-source Radeon Gallium3D driver in the soon-to-be-out Mesa 10.1...

    Just as every single game in my Linux Steam library (~70 games). Last one, Metro: LL, started working without arifacts a week ago...

      Just tried it with oibaf PPA + Linux 3.13.5:

      It runs at comparable FPS with noticably less input lag/is much more responsive compared to AMD Catalyst (Radeon HD 6870 1GB).

      At this point, AMD Catalyst is probably only useful for GCN based cards using demanding applications. Pre-GCN is better off with Mesa now.

        Forgot to add: open source driver is faster for me in Valley. Old results, but nothing changed since then http://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming...es_faster_and/

            Why? Kaveri is awesome, and the AMD Catalyst is pretty usable nowadays, so no worries. Also radeonsi is developing ridiculously fast, so you could switch soon if you wanted.

              Well Mantle -> Win+Catalyst...

              (And funny tweets about AMD thinking if Mantle + HLSL is possible on Linux )

                Catalyst is still useful if you have multiple GPUs, want openGL 4.3 support, and better openCL support (last time I checked, openCL isn't an option for open source drivers). I'm sure it has some bonuses for firepro cards too. The open source drivers still have a long way to go, but in terms of everyday use for the average user, they're definitely good enough.
