Phoronix: Trying Out & Benchmarking The DigitalOcean Cloud

One of the more popular test requests recently at Phoronix.com has been to deliver some reference benchmarks of DigitalOcean's public cloud. DigitalOcean is an increasingly-popular, low-cost public cloud that got started back in 2011. Due to being always inundated with new Linux review and benchmark requests at Phoronix, it has taken a while to get around to it, but at Phoronix today we're posting our first reference benchmarks of the Linux-powered DigitalOcean cloud platform.

Phoronix, Linux Hardware Reviews, Linux hardware benchmarks, Linux server benchmarks, Linux benchmarking, Desktop Linux, Linux performance, Open Source graphics, Linux How To, Ubuntu benchmarks, Ubuntu hardware, Phoronix Test Suite

Have been using DigitalOcean for university project. I found support to be quite good, they have tutorials how to setup things such as LAMP and so on. After I cancelled my subscription, they gave me 5$ to give them another try.

      No IPv6 Support

Unfortunately it looks like DigitalOcean is still struggling with missed deadlines for IPv6 support: https://www.digitalocean.com/communi...ipv6-available

It's too bad, their plans look like a much better per-spec value than my current provider, Linode.

If anyone were actually using IPv6, this would be a real issue.

Hoping for others being benchmarked as well

https://www.vultr.com/ is trying to be the digital ocean 'killer' by being cheaper and claiming to be faster, so that might be a good provider to compare.

What would also be interresting is to benchmark some 'baremetal cloud' offering:

IBM Cloud with Red Hat offers market-leading security, enterprise scalability and open innovation to unlock the full potential of cloud and AI.
