DragonFlyBSD Intel Graphics Driver Caught Up To Linux 4.1
The DragonFlyBSD Intel DRM graphics driver sure is getting close to catching up against the upstream Intel Linux graphics driver with the mainline kernel.
While just a few months ago the Intel i915 DRM driver within the DragonFlyBSD kernel was more than a dozen releases out-of-date compared to the upstream i915 DRM code within the Linux kernel, that gap continues to get very narrow. François Tigeot continues leading the charge in making the Intel graphics driver on DragonFlyBSD that's ported over from the Linux kernel almost up to par with upstream.
With today's latest commit, the driver is now re-based against the Linux 4.1 kernel. This brings much better Valley View support, Skylake improvements, preliminary changes for Broxton, DRRS is now enabled where supported, client-side XenGT, DisplayPort improvements, and a ton of other code improvements.
It was just under one year ago that the DragonFlyBSD kernel was using the Linux 3.10 Intel graphics code but in the past year they have got extremely close to catching up. I'm very curious to see this year if they get caught up or as far as N-1 against the upstream Linux kernel!
For the Radeon DRM driver with the DragonFlyBSD kernel, with another commit today the Radeon DRM driver has been re-based against the Linux 3.18 driver code.
