Gallium3D VC4 Driver Being Ported To A Phone
Eric Anholt has written a status update concerning his latest work at Broadcom on the VC4 Gallium3D graphics driver that's mostly focused on providing a free software graphics driver stack for the Raspberry Pi.
While there is the Raspberry Pi focus, Anholt received permission recently for bringing up the VC4 open-source driver on another device using VC4 V3D graphics. This newer device is the 911360 enterprise phone, which appears to be a satellite phone made by Cygnus Telecom. Broadcom's BCM911360 phone won't be something most free software users will be able to find or have, but interesting to see the VC4 driver being brought to it and will hopefully improve the code quality with porting this driver to additional platforms.
Anholt has also been working on HTML documentation out of the kernel code comments, register allocation fixes, CMA fixes, and other improvements. More details on the latest VC4 development work via this blog post.
