Libdrm 2.4.62 Is An Important Update For Open-Source GPU Drivers
Libdrm 2.4.62 was released this week as a significant update to this DRM library for interfacing between the kernel DRM drivers and user-space.
Among the changes with libdrm 2.4.62 that make this release important:
- Support is now exposed for the atomic mode-setting and blob APIs. With Linux 4.2, the atomic mode-setting APIs are considered complete and now enabled by default. As covered in numerous Phoronix articles, many of the DRM drivers have already been ported over to make use of atomic mode-setting for providing a better experience. This API allows for testing video modes before being applied and for the process to happen atomically in one-step for causing a flicker-free experience.
- The Radeon code has a new Bonaire PCI ID not present up to this point.
- The Nouveau code has a coherent buffer object (BO) attribute sought after by Tegra developers.
- The Intel driver adds in the Broxton PCI IDs with there now being support upstream in the Linux 4.2 kernel.
