There's just two weeks to go until the annual X.Org Developers' Conference (XDC), which this year will be taking place in Nürnberg, Germany.

XDC2012 is happening from 19 September through 21 September as X.Org developers from around the world converge on the SUSE headquarters in the great Franconican town of Nürnberg.

XDC2012 should be a very interesting event once again with celebrating 25 years of X11. Well, there doesn't appear to be any special celebrations actually planned, but the Wiki makes note of "Please join us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the first X11 release." The X.Org Foundation nor the usual main event sponsor (Intel) aren't sponsoring any event at XDC2012, but at least Phoronix/myself will be sponsoring (good quality Bavarian) beer for the three day event.

SUSE will have a refrigerator in our conference room and Phoronix should be supplying lots of good quality beer for the developers to celebrate 25 years of X11. Around the same time of September, it's also the usual anniversary for the now defunct RadeonHD driver project and AMD's now important open-source strategy. AMD's open-source strategy will be five years old at the middle of the month so it's more celebrating for open-source driver developers to do in Nürnberg.

Other highlights of this event that begins in two weeks include NVIDIA being in attendance, maininling XWayland will be discussed (XWayland is likely to be merged for xorg-server 1.14), a book on open-source graphics driver development will be worked on, several interesting talks (plus the integration test suite and Waffle), along with plenty of interesting evening activities in the Bavarian city.

XDC2012 should be a great event! There will be Phoronix coverage through the duration of the event plus any other random interesting tid-bits shared in the after-hours via Twitter. On the Saturday after XDC2012, there's also going to be a Franconian beer hike! After that, it's down to Munich for Oktoberfest that begins on the weekend. If you plan to come to the wiesn, see the Phoronix guide to Oktoberfest.

Those wanting more details on XDC2012 can find information on the Wiki, but as of late the X.Org/FreeDesktop.org server infrastructure has been extremely shoddy and unreliable, so good luck actually loading the page without a "503 service unavailable" error.

Last year the annual X.Org meeting happened in Chicago while the previous year X.Org developers were in Toulouse.
