VOGL Now Supports Unreal Engine 4 On Linux
Valve developers have gone out of their way to ensure that the VOGL OpenGL debugger for Linux works with Unreal Engine 4.
Yesterday Epic Games rolled out Unreal Engine 4 support for Linux/SteamOS and as a result VOGL developers at Valve went into overdrive for getting UE4 working with VOGL, their very exciting open-source OpenGL debugger.
Rich Geldreich at Valve along with Mike Sartain and others who have been working on VOGL have got the debugger working well with the UE4 call-stream using their latest GIt code. VOGL has full support for UE4's GL3 and GL4 renderer modes and they tested with the UE4 test game.
Geldreich noted on his blog, "UE4's OpenGL renderer is the most advanced we've worked with so far. It's providing valuable test cases for several modern GPU features we've not had traces to validate our code against, such as compute shaders and cubemap arrays. We'll be making UE4 GL callstreams part of our regression test suite going forward."
Rich also shared that John McDonald, one of the former DevTechs specializing in OpenGL at NVIDIA, has joined Valve to work on VOGL and SteamOS.
