Intel Works On RandR Implementation For Wayland's Weston
The latest work by Intel employees on Wayland is adding an RandR protocol, similar to the X RandR protocol, to the Weston compositor.
Quanxian Wang has announced the latest Intel effort to port xrandr from being an X.Org Server component to now working under Wayland's Weston compositor. Dynamic mode-setting is this latest work item of bringing the X Resize and Rotate extension to a Wayland world.
With this latest Intel patch-set, an weston-wrandr application is available that acts like the X.Org's xrandr utility. Ultimately this Weston RandR work will allow for setting up output modes, transforms, moving outputs to relative positions, and providing disconnected output information.
Quanxian Wang wrote, "Currently randr has more functions to be defined and implemented. Some other functions are planned. But at first we need support. If this protocol is accepted, we could have the chance moving on. The advantage is randr architecture have been defined at this commit. New function will be very easy to be added in the protocol."
