Wine 1.7.26 Implements More Of DirectWrite, C Runtime Improvements
A new bi-weekly Wine development release is available today that has several bug fixes affecting a handful of different Windows gamers, for anyone still dependent upon Wine for Linux gaming this weekend.
Since Wine 1.7.24 has been work towards implementing DirectWrite, a text layout and glyph rendering API with hardware aceleration that began in the Windows 7 days to replace their GDI(+) interface. DirectWrite is an alternative to the open-source Pango and Cairo libraries. With Wine 1.7.26, more DirectWrite functions have been implemented but it looks like there's still more work to do.
Wine 1.7.26 also has improvements to the common file dialog, more C runtime improvements, and various bug-fixes. There's 48 known bug-fixes with Wine 1.7.26. Among the games affected by the bug fixes are Call of Atlantis, Final Fantasy XIV, Grand Fantasia, Baldur's Gate II, Assassin's Creed, and Rainbow Six Lockdown.
