GTK+ On Windows Now Supports OpenGL
For users of the GTK+ tool-kit on Windows, OpenGL support is coming and follows in the footsteps of GTK's recent OpenGL focus and enablement on Linux.
With the GNOME 3.16 release due out next March there is native OpenGL support as part of the tool-kit. The work includes a new GtkGLArea widget for providing OpenGL access within GTK+ applications and other OpenGL related work.
The OpenGL enablement within GTK+ though requires adding the support wihtin GTK's numerous GDK back-ends to accomodate the platform differences with regard to GL context creation and management. So far, the X11 and Wayland back-ends on Linux have been enabled for OpenGL in the mainline GTK+ Git code.
With today's GTK3 Git code, there's now OpenGL support for the GDK Windows back-end that uses the Windows WGL API calls. This allows GTK GLArea widgets to work on Windows. Up next, OS X?
