Qt 5.6 Drops WebKit, Qt QML Uses Less Memory & Other Forthcoming Features
With the Qt 5.6 beta planned for this week ahead of the planned Qt 5.6.0 official release before the end of the year, and being well past the feature freeze, here's a look at some of the features coming to Qt 5.6.
Qt 5.6 features memory reductions, a new QVersionNumber class, Qt Core now supports logging directly to syslog, improved OpenGL ES 3.0/3.1 support in Qt GUI,improved cross-platform HiDPI support, Qt WebEngine has been upgraded against Chromium 45 and there's now Pepper plug-in support (Flash included), reduced memory consumption with Qt QML, WinRT support improvements, Qt NFC now supports Android, and various other changes.
With Qt WebEngine coming along and powered by Google's Chromium (Blink) engine, Qt WebKit is being removed in Qt 5.6. Additionally, Qt Quick 1 is being dropped in favor of Qt Quick 2. Being deprecated in Qt 5.6 are the Qt Script and Qt Enginio components.
