Qt 5.7 Is Going To A Feature Freeze While Qt 5.6 Isn't Even Coming For Another Month
Qt 5.6 is running a solid three months behind schedule while Qt developers are hoping to offset further delays in the Qt5 release train by going into a feature freeze now for Qt 5.7.
Last week I wrote about Qt 5.7 is set to go into a feature freeze next week (now it's this week).
Qt 5.7 going into a feature freeze now ended up being questioned on the mailing list since Qt 5.6.0 hasn't been released. Qt 5.6 has been in a feature freeze since last August and originally they planned to have Qt 5.6.0 out on 8 December, but now their next hope is to release Qt 5.6.0 on 1 March by branching Qt 5.6.0 today and doing a release candidate in two weeks. The Qt 5.6 release schedule is on this Wiki page.
Meanwhile, the Qt 5.7 schedule originally called for a feature freeze on 18 December, but that's only set to happen this week. They aren't pushing the Qt 5.7 release out further due to the Qt 5.6 delays. With this latest Qt 5.7 release plan, they hope to do its final Qt 5.7.0 release on 26 May, just shy of three months after Qt 5.6.0 is hopefully going to be released.
Qt5 has become quite known for delays, but hopefully after they have Qt 5.7 out the door they'll be able to get back on track. Qt 5.7's feature freeze this week will mean new features can start to be worked on for Qt 5.8, which should make it out late into the year.
