Radeon Pro Software 17.Q1 Released For Linux Professionals
AMD today released the Radeon Pro Software 17.Q1 driver for Windows and Linux users running FirePro / RadeonPro workstation graphics cards.
For those confused by the (now deprecated) Catalyst/fglrx and then Radeon/AMDGPU DRM drivers and R600g/RadeonSI Gallium3D drivers, the newer "hybrid" AMDGPU-PRO driver, and Radeon Pro Software, this latter less heard of driver is basically the enterprise-tested version of their "PRO" hybrid driver stack for enterprise/professional users. Basically the Radeon Pro Software driver for both Windows and Linux is what's fully-vetted for workstation/enterprise users on the FirePro/RadeonPro hardware.
Thus with today's Radeon Pro Software 17.Q1 driver release, it incorporates the work introduced the past quarter in the AMDGPU-PRO releases, such as finally supporting FreeSync on Linux.
Today's announcement mentions of the Linux driver, "The Enterprise Driver 17.Q1 also brings the new features and improvements from our Radeon Pro Software Crimson ReLive Edition Linux Driver to enterprise users — you’ll find support for CentOS, AMD FreeSync technology, DirectGMA, and Vulkan on Red Hat Enterprise Linux."
