RadeonSI/Gallium3D Is Almost Ready For Shader Images Support
AMD's Nicolai Hähnle on Sunday posted another large Mesa patch series, this time more preparation work for shader images support within Gallium3D.
Hähnle commented that this set of ten patches is likely the last hardware-independent patches before publishing the patch series for wiring up OpenGL's ARB_shader_image_load_store extension for the RadeonSI driver.
ARB_shader_image_load_store is one of two remaining OpenGL extensions needed for OpenGL 4.2 compliance by RadeonSI. The Intel DRI driver is so far the only Mesa driver to support this extension. Once ARB_shader_image_load_store is supported by Nouveau NVC0, it will then have OpenGL 4.2 while RadeonSI still needs ARB_shader_atomic_counters.
More details on this prep work for Gallium3D shader images support can be found via this Mesa-dev thread.
