SPARC Sees Updates For Linux 4.14
While Oracle recently laid off a ton of SPARC staff (and Solaris), not everyone was let go and it's still not instantly a dead platform. With Linux 4.14 there are some SPARC improvements for those relying upon this ex-Sun hardware.
Among the SPARC changes for Linux 4.14 are adding 16GB hugepage support, adding a VCC console concentrator driver (Sun Virtual Console Concentrator / VCC), supporting the CPU "poke" hypercall, and for M7/M8 CPUs providing optimized memcpy/memset/copy_{to,from}_user functions. A decent number of improvements if you rely on SPARC hardware and routinely upgrade your kernel.
The complete list of SPARC changes for the Linux 4.14 kernel merge window can be found via the kernel mailing list.
