It's Been Three Years Since Valve Announced SteamOS, Steam Machines

This week marks three years since Valve publicly announced Steam Machines, SteamOS, and the Steam Controller.

The Steam Controller seems to be gaining the most traction of these three efforts. This week the Steam Controller is on sale if you are looking at picking it up for just $35 rather than $50. The Steam Controller appears to still be going strong and there have been some indications Valve may be launching a new Steam Controller in the not too distant future.

SteamOS meanwhile continues evolving and is currently making various strides with its Debian Jessie-based SteamOS Brewmaster series. However, it still fundamentally hasn't evolved too much outside of a tweaked Debian installation booting directly to Steam Big Picture Mode, a different compositor, and some other differences while also routinely getting some pre-release drivers from AMD.

Then the other part of Valve's play: Steam Machines. And with that, when is the last time you heard anything interesting on the Steam Machines front? Or have been tempted by a Steam Machine's hardware/price? Do you or any of your friends have a Steam Machine running SteamOS?
