Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS Struck By A Last-Minute Delay

Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS was already twice delayed for different technical reasons. Approaching one month late from the original time table, 16.04.2 was supposed to ship today but that will no longer happen.

Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS has been struck by another delay, but at least this last-minute delay will just be a day or few. There were a number of hiccups in the past few days while today, when 16.04.2 LTS was revised to ship, the release candidate ISOs are being pushed out for testing.

Adam Conrad serving as the 16.04.2 release manager says there are some bits needing to be cleaned up and the server spins haven't yet been produced, thus a delay is necessary. So this LTS point release with the new HWE (hardware enablement) stack is off the table, but Adam might be able to get everything ready for Friday although he thinks Monday is more realistic.

He mentioned this on the ubuntu-release list along with a few other details. This hardware enablement stack will bring the Ubuntu 16.10 kernel, Mesa (sadly, the dated Mesa 12), and other components onto the 16.04 base for those needing to stick to the conservative Long-Term Support releases.
