Atomic Mode-Setting Updated For Wayland's Weston
Daniel Stone of Collabora has sent out his latest patches for wiring up atomic mode-setting support in Wayland's Weston.
These "v2" patches provide many clean-ups to the original code, various feature improvements, and some plane work too.
Daniel is hoping to land these 68 patches into Weston Git soon: If the 1.13 release is coming up soon, he hopes to land it as soon as possible for the 1.14 window. More details on this big set of work via wayland-devel.
For driver support, Intel's DRM should be in good shape for atomic mode-setting with Linux 4.9, the Nouveau driver has its initial atomic mode-setting support in Linux 4.10, and the AMDGPU atomic mode-setting isn't expected until the whole DC/DAL fiasco is worked through. Atomic mode-setting allows setting output modes more cleanly by either being able to succeed or fail in one-go while also being able to test a desired mode in advance of the operation, reducing possible flickering situations while also being faster.
