X.Org Will Look To Vote Next Month For Board Members, SPI
One year after X.Org members voted to join the SPI, which failed over not enough votes, that vote is expected to come up again next month.
The X.Org Board of Directors is planning to stage the annual vote on X.Org Board of Directors beginning 22 February. At the SPI's 12 February meeting, the X.Org board intends to ask SPI again an invitation to join the foundation. Assuming they honor a second invitation, during the X.Org elections will be where they need to try again for 75% of the vote in favor of joining the SPI.
Last year, there wasn't a 75%+ turnout and generally there isn't that big of a turnout. In fact, some years they almost fail to reach quorum. However, this year there was 58 out of 71 previous members that chose (or were aware of the need) to renew their X.Org membership. With those members having renewed recently, hopefully they will be more active this time in voting and know what's at stake. At least 44 people will need to vote in favor of joining the SPI.
More X.Org election details should be made known next month ahead of the two-week voting period.
