Power requirements of modern high-end systems are constantly on the rise. With the introduction of NVIDIA SLI and ATI CrossFire, power demands have increased even more. However, more power consumption inevitably means additional heat dissipation, thus larger fans that are more powerful are needed to cool these systems, and of course this generally means more noise. Many overclockers out there could care less about noise and don't think twice about strapping some monstrous Delta fans to their favorite heatsinks. Other users, however, hesitate to even use fans at all. As manufacturers continue to produce more powerful units, they inevitably radiate more and more heat. In order to cool these units they often have no choice but to increase the amount of fans or increase the speed of the fans, which generally leads to an excess of noise. Those who seek silence generally consider acquiring a passively cooled, fan-less power supply. Unfortunately, the options are few out there, and many are not well cooled at all and are often costly when it comes to a cut in performance and incredibly high temperatures. Although not as extravagantly packed as the Hiper Type-R power supply reviewed a few weeks ago, the XG Magnum's packaging is certainly nothing to be overlooked. The Magnum came in a large cardboard box. Inside were the manual, specifications sheet, and an accessories box containing all the cables and four mounting screws. Under the accessories box was thick foam padding, and below that was the Magnum itself. The foam padding fit the Magnum exactly and provided very good protection against any sort of collisions the box might be subjected to during transit.
