GeIL 2 x 512MB Ultra PC2-5300 DDR2-667
Conclusion:
Looking back at our benchmark results with the GeIL Ultra PC2-5300 we were overall impressed by its abilities to run at DDR2-667 speeds with 3-4-4-8 timings while being able to push the memory, with a voltage increase, up to DDR2-843 with 5-5-5-15 timings while remaining completely stable in all of our tests. Although the Kingmax Mars DDR2-667 modules while timed at 3-4-4-8 marginally outperformed the GeIL Ultra in many of our tests, the Elpida ICs required the maximum of 2.30V to operate at these tight timings compared against its SPD 5-5-5-15. In addition, the GeIL Ultra PC2-5300 comes with a lifetime warranty, and a stated power consumption of up to 2.40V, which is more than most motherboards are able to provide. How much do these 2 x 512MB modules cost? Presently at GeIL's online store, they can be found for merely $125 USD or $240 for a 2 x 1GB set. The cost of the GeIL Ultra is half that of Corsair's famed XMS2-5400UL 2 x 512MB pair that are designed for 3-2-2-8 usage while maintaining a high price-point of $255.00. Although we were not able to break the 1GHz barrier, or let alone 900MHz, we were much impressed by Golden Emperor International Ltd's DDR2-667 memory and we look forward to seeing many more products from GeIL.
