Tyan Tempest i5000VF & i5000VS

Moving onto the expansion slots, the Tyan Tempest i5000VF S5370 supports two PCI Express x8 (PCI-E x4 signal), one PCI-X 133/100MHz, and two PCI slots. The Tyan Tempest i5000VS S5372 boasts one PCI-X, one PCI-E x8 (PCI-E x4 signal), one PCI, and the previously mentioned PCI Express x4 slot. Also on the S5372 is support for the Tyan TARO SO-DIMM connector cards for added motherboard functionality. As has recently become almost the de facto standard for Tyan motherboards, the integrated graphics are powered by XGI with the Volari Z7 (XG20) core with 16MB of video memory. The expansion slot area also contains the LAN ASICs among other onboard components. With the i5000VF, the dual Gigabit ports are provided by the ESB2, while two also come from the Southbridge on the S5372, but a third is added by the Intel i82551QM.

Above the expansion slots is the i5000V Blackford Chipset from Intel. Comparing the i5000X to the i5000V, the i5000X boasts support for up to 64GB of RAM and memory mirroring while the "V" variant does not. The Northbridge is covered by a large aluminum heatsink on both motherboards. With the Tyan i5000VF, only four DDR2 FB-DIMM modules are supported where as with the i5000VS it can handle six DDR FB-DIMM modules. Both motherboards do however support dual memory channels, ECC memory, and FB-DIMM 667/533MHz. Finally at the top of the motherboard are the 24-pin and 8-pin EPS12V / SSI power connectors.

The I/O ports at the rear of the motherboard are identical except for the S5372 boasting the third Ethernet connection. The other I/O ports include two PS/2, two USB 2.0, one COM, and one VGA.
