Examination:

The exterior of the SilverStone NS311 is aluminum, and as a whole the product looks very sleek and elegant. On the exterior are a series of slits to provide sufficient ventilation for the hard drive while using a fan-less design. On the side of the NS311 is a SilverStone moniker. Indicating power and drive activity are a series of white LEDs. In addition, on the exterior of the drive are a power connector, power switch, USB 2.0 connector, RJ-45 Ethernet connector, and default reset switch.

Opening up the SilverStone NS311 requires removing four screws from two of the sides. On the inside are rubber grommets for reducing vibrations from the hard drive and ultimately generating less noise. For assisting with cooling the drive on top of the ventilation areas is a large thermal pad that is exposed to the top of the hard drive for transferring heat. We also see the 4-pin molex power connector and ATA-133 cable connected to the PCB. Attached to the PCB is the MAC address for the network connection. The CPU used by the NS311 is the RDC R2882 with 2MB SDRAM / 512KB NOR Flash memory. The maximum number of simultaneous users supported by the NS311 is eight connections.
