With the growing focus on Web 2.0, Sun Microsystems had dedicated seven sessions to this topic. The CommunityOne Web 2.0 sessions had included AJAX Applications Made Easy with jMaki and Scripting, AJAX to the Moon: Unplug, Push and Accelerate, Architecture for Humanity Case Study, Creating Off-Line Web 2.0 Applications, JRuby: Understanding the Fuss, Scaling a PostgreSQL Open Source Database, and Web 2.0 Collaboration with AJAX Push. On top of NetBeans day and the various CommunityOne sessions, running for nearly the entire day was Startup Camp. This camp was focused for those starting new technology businesses and are on the road to viability. Like some of the other JavaOne and CommunityOne activities, the Startup Camp was formatted in a un-conference fashion.

The sixth and final topic featured at CommunityOne 2007 was on the matter of Linux versus Solaris. The speaker of "What's a Linux guy doing at Sun?" was of course Debian founder and newly named Chief Operating Platforms Strategist for Sun, Ian Murdock. Jeff Bailey of Canonical and Bart Smaalders of Sun had also presented a session called "Inside the Sausage Factory: Engineering Ubuntu and Solaris", which looked at various engineering and release process measures for both Ubuntu and Solaris. Joe Little of Stanford University and Don Kretsch of Sun had also shared information in regards to the next-generation Solaris -- Solaris Express Developer Edition 11 "Nevada" -- along with looking closely at NexentaOS, which is a hybrid of OpenSolaris and Ubuntu. Last but not least, the session entitled "Up the Stack" had focused upon the increasing number of Web 2.0 platform applications that are operating system independent. According to Sun's materials for this track, "The ultimate goal of the track is to change the conversation: Not Linux vs. Solaris, but open vs. closed."
