Conclusion:

While this is our first review of an Intel X38 motherboard on Linux, we are also preparing for our review of the ASUS P5E3 Deluxe motherboard and will be delivering that in the near future. However, with both of these Intel X38 motherboards we have experienced excellent results on Linux. On both Fedora and Ubuntu we hadn't run into any hardware compatibility problems or any other issues. The GA-X38-DQ6 had also performed well under Linux compared to the P35-based Blitz Extreme (granted, the Gigabyte motherboard was using DDR2-800 compared to the high latency DDR3-1333). Though like the P5E3 Deluxe and the ASUS Blitz Extreme, the Sun Check Tool for checking Solaris compatibility had not functioned. The layout of the Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 is clean, it offers dual PCI Express 2.0 interfaces that are ATI CrossFire supportive, and this motherboard even offers eight USB 2.0 ports on the motherboard's I/O panel. Driving additional innovation into this motherboard is Gigabyte's SilentPipe cooling solution. If you're after an Intel X38 motherboard that can take advantage of your existing DDR2 memory, the Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 is a Linux compatible motherboard worth checking out.
