Examination:

The 2.5" drive enclosure is rather basic from the outside as one should be, though differentiating the SilverStone MS05 from some of the other models on the market is the aluminum construction, with plastic just appearing on both ends. This construction meets SilverStone standards and shouldn't be easily damaged. Compared to the MS02, one item missing is the carrying case. The case can prevent the drive from being scratched during transport and provides an easy way to keep the enclosure with the needed cables. The overall dimensions of the drive enclosure are 84 x 20 x 160 mm.

At the rear of the SilverStone MS05 are connectors for DC +5V, USB 2.0, and eSATA. For this drive, eSATA is the optimal interface to use while if you have no eSATA connections on the PC you are using, you can use USB 2.0. The chipset used by this 2.5" SATA enclosure is a J-Micron JM20316.

The 3.5" docking station is very simple and just provides an adapter to power the enclosure via a 4-pin molex connector (though only the +5V rail is used) and the eSATA interface is converted to a conventional SATA adapter for the motherboard. Unfortunately, there is no flap to protect any dust from entering the docking bay when not in use or to just provide a cleaner appearance on the front of the chassis.
