Amazon EC2 Micro: Barely Faster Than A Nokia N900?

With the dcraw test, it is pretty much the same story where the Dell Mini 9 netbook continues to be faster than the Amazon EC2 t1.micro instance. In this test of measuring the time needed to convert many RAW images to PPM, the Fedora KVM guest continued to be the fastest followed by the Dell Mini 9, which were both several times faster than the Amazon EC2 Micro cloud computing instance.

We weren't able to run our FFmpeg video encoding test on the ARMv7 Nokia N900, but the Amazon EC2 t1.micro was 3.5x slower than the Dell Mini 9 and 6.2x slower than the Fedora KVM guest with one core of an Intel Core i3 330M.

With the Traditional DES test in John The Ripper, the Dell Mini 9 was 11x faster than the t1.micro and the Fedora KVM guest was 18x faster.
