With the EPYC 7551 offering the same 32 core / 64 thread configuration as the EPYC 7601, in many cases the 7551 can perform very close to the 7601 with there being just a 200MHz difference in the base clock speed and a 100MHz difference in the all-core boost speed.

Most of these results come as no surprise if having been tuned to our previous EPYC CPU reviews.

In a few rare cases the 7551 is in line with the 7401P when the workload isn't scaling well past the 24 core / 48 thread of this lower-cost CPU that benefits from a 200MHz higher all-core boost frequency (2.8GHz vs. 2.6GHz with the 7551).

But in most workloads, the EPYC 7551 is just a close step behind the 7601.
