The Most Power Efficient & Best Value Of AMD GPUs For Linux Gamers
Here's a look at the overall performance-per-dollar values averaged out for all of the 1080p Linux OpenGL tests run:
The MSI Radeon R7 370 was delivering the best value followed by the R9 290 while the expensive R9 Fury was in last.
For power efficiency for Linux gaming at 1920 x 1080, the R7 370 and R9 Fury were the front-runners.
Meanwhile, for 4K Linux gamers, the R9 290 was delivering the best performance-per-dollar followed by the R7 370.
The Radeon R9 Fury when being stressed with 4K Linux graphics workloads meanwhile popped out with the best efficiency, as would be expected for this Fiji HBM GPU.
Well, if you're after a new AMD GPU and plan to use the Catalyst Linux driver, hopefully these numbers from my limited range of AMD GPUs were helpful. Again, the same tests/system were used with the large NVIDIA Maxwell power/dollar comparison if you wish to compare the meta results. If there's enough interest, next I can do a similar comparison but for NVIDIA/AMD graphics cards using the open-source Mesa/Gallium3D drivers; consider joining Phoronix Premium or make a PayPal tip for making more of these tests happen with being able to invest in more AMD hardware and carry out other interesting Linux tests.
