AMD Threadripper 1950X Linux Benchmarks
With the thread-happy OpenSSL testing, the Threadripper 1950X was about 12% faster than the i9-7900X.
While on a performance-per-dollar basis, the lower cost CPUs provide more value.
Building the Linux kernel from source in a default x86-64 configuration was slightly faster with the Threadripper 1950X over the Core i9 7900X. I've got the build-linux-kernel test down to about 36 seconds depending upon your compiler configuration / operating system release, with Ubuntu 16.04 going slightly faster due to its older GCC.
The Threadripper CPU was also doing much better than the Intel Core i9 with C-Ray multi-threaded ray-tracing.
