AMD A10-7800 & A6-7400K APUs Run Great On Linux

The A6-7400K has two CPU cores (plus four GPU compute cores) with the CPU being clocked at 3.5GHz with a 3.9GHz Turbo frequency with Radeon R5 class graphics. The A10-7800 is a quad-core CPU with eight GPU compute cores. Like the A6-7400K, the A10-7800 is clocked at 3.5GHz with a 3.9GHz Turbo. The A10-7800 has beefier Radeon R7 graphics like the A10-7850K. Both of these new AMD APUs have a 45 Watt Configurable TDP option while by default are rated for 65 Watts.

With the A10-7850K having run great on Linux for months, it was to no surprise having the A6-7400K and A10-7800 APUs running well on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. Ubuntu 14.04 served as the base operating system for today's tests with the Linux 3.13 kernel and the latest Catalyst 14.6 Beta. In future A10-7800/A6-7400K tests I'll be doing some lines with the newer kernels and different driver options along with seeing how Clang is working these days for the latest-generation AMD APUs over GCC. Long story short, the A10-7800 and A6-7400K were running well on this modern Linux distribution without faults.

All of the benchmarks in this article were facilitated via the Phoronix Test Suite for full automation and reproducibility of the results. All processors were running at their stock frequencies for this article and the system memory was maintained the same at DDR3-2133MHz.
