AMD FX-8350 Linux Performance-Per-Watt

The latest Phoronix benchmarks to share of the AMD FX-8350 "Vishera" processor are performance-per-Watt results for the Piledriver eight-core processor compared to the previous-generation Bulldozer FX-8150. Tests were conducted when running at stock speeds as well as overclocked settings.

Benchmarks of the AMD FX-8350 happened when it was running at its stock 4.0GHz frequency (with 4.2GHz Turbo frequency) and then the eight-core CPU was overclocked to 4.60GHz. The AMD FX-8150 was tested at its stock 3.60GHz frequency, at 4.00GHz to match the AMD FX-8150, and then when the FX-8150 was also pushed to 4.60GHz.

The AC power consumption of the entire system was monitored via a WattsUp USB-based power meter, which is automatically monitored via the Phoronix Test Suite software. The power consumption can be polled automatically by setting the MONITOR=sys.power environment variable or setting MONITOR=all to record the data for all supported sensors.

The AMD FX-8150 and FX-8350 data was recorded from a system with an ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard, 8GB of DDR3 system memory, OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 graphics card. Ubuntu 12.10 was used as the Linux operating system for testing with the Linux 3.5 kernel, Unity 6.8.0, GCC 4.7.2, and the NVIDIA 304.43 binary graphics driver.
