For the defunct Nexuiz game there wasn't any extra performance out of Mesa 10.3-devel or the other packages upgraded by the Oibaf PPA, but the Linux 3.16 kernel upgrade boosted the performance significantly as did enabling HyperZ. There's also the possibility for more performance by upgrading to the still in-development Linux 3.17 kernel. The performance for Nexuiz was up by 36% for the Radeon R9 270X over the stack found in Ubuntu 14.04.

With OpenArena the performance also improved mostly due to the kernel upgrades and manually enabling HyperZ.

OpenArena could be made easily 16% faster over the stock configuration of the Ubuntu Trusty Tahr from April.
