For a few disk/file-system tests using the cross-platform Compile Bench software, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the stock EXT4 file-system was much faster than OS X 10.9.4 with the Journaled HFS+ file-system.

The open-source Intel Linux Graphics Driver is now much faster than the OS X Intel OpenGL driver for many of our common OpenGL benchmarks/games native to each platform.
