Catalyst 15.5 For Linux Brings Some Performance Improvements
With other Steam Linux titles like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Team Fortress 2 there was no major change in performance but at least these Valve titles already run fine on the Catalyst Linux driver.
The performance of the demanding Unigine Valley OpenGL benchmark was unchanged with this Linux proprietary driver upgrade.
With our other standalone Linux benchmarks, there was no major change in performance.
For the tested hardware and games/applications, the Metro Redux games certainly run much better for the Metro Redux titles, but based upon these results and feedback from our readers, your mileage may vary for the rest of the driver stack. At least with the imminent Radeon Rx 300 series launch, Vulkan / SPIR-V coming soon, and other milestones to look forward to, hopefully AMD will have some more Catalyst Linux surprises looking toward the rest of the year.
