Trying Out Fedora 25 With Wayland, Early Benchmarks Included
Portal lost just a few frames per second when going through Fedora 25 on Wayland.
Well, that's that from some preliminary weekend benchmarking of the state that will be found for the upcoming Fedora 25 Alpha release with GNOME on Wayland being the default. The overhead of (X)Wayland with this selection of games was quite minimal and much better than we have seen out of some past performance comparisons. Of course, this was with Intel Skylake graphics hardware. The NVIDIA proprietary driver's Wayland approach won't be supported by F25 and thus will be stuck with X.Org. AMDGPU(PRO) should work fine on the other hand. Stay tuned for more Fedora 25 tests as its release approaches in November. As mentioned from my use of Fedora 25 over the weekend, in addition to near performance parity the experience was stable and worked out fine for my use-cases.
