With the WebXPRT benchmark, running the browsers on Wayland delivered slightly faster performance across the board. The fastest results were on Firefox under Wayland without WebRender. With Firefox 75.0, switching from the X.Org to Wayland session with the GNOME Shell actually resulted in 7% higher performance for this web browser benchmark. With Chrome 80 switching to Wayland also provided about a 7% uplift but Firefox was actually faster.

With the Basemark browser benchmark the results were close except for Firefox 76.0 Beta seeing slightly better performance out of the Wayland session. Google Chrome 80 meanwhile failed to complete this test with the Wayland session.
