FreeBSD 14.0 Is Delivering Great Performance Uplift & Running Well In Early Tests
BlogBench that simulates the workload of a busy file server with many random reads, writes, and rewrites came out much better on FreeBSD 14.0. The new FreeBSD 14.0 upgrades to OpenZFS 2.2 for its ZFS file-system implementation plus moves from LLVM Clang 14 to LLVM Clang 16 and other software package upgrades.
Even with sticking to the same pkg-installed OpenJDK 11 on both FreeBSD 13.2 and FreeBSD 14.0 for this AMD EPYC server, the performance under FreeBSD 14.0 was much better off than with the prior FreeBSD 13 stable series.
The Renaissance OpenJDK Java benchmarks were also sporting some nice improvements with FreeBSD 14.0.
