Intel Core i9 12900K P-State Governor Performance On Linux
In creator workloads like the RawTherapee RAW imaging program, the performance governor provided some benefit for the Core i9 12900K over powersave while Schedutil continued to yield lower raw performance.
Schedutil was saving a few Watts at least.
Making use of the P-State performance governor does pay off if frequently compiling software... Schedutil meanwhile was inline with the powersave performance.
The P-State performance governor led to 11% higher power consumption for the Linux kernel "allmodconfig" build while lowering the build time by about 10%.
The i9-12900K package temperature shot up from an ~82 degree average during that build process to about 89 degrees with the P-State performance mode.
