Meteor Lake EPP Tuning For Greater Performance Or Power Efficiency With Intel Ultra Core 7
First up were some graphics benchmarks of the integrated Arc Graphics performance. With GravityMark being rendered by Vulkan, the performance mode here only provided a slight uplift to performance while the power saver mode had a more dramatic lowering of the frame-rate.
While not helping the overall frame-rate much, the performance mode really ramped up the CPU power use leading to a 30 Watt average consumption compared to 21.6 Watts in the balanced default or 19 Watts in the power saver mode.
On a performance-per-Watt basis, the balanced and power saver modes were quite similar for GravityMark.
3DMark was another graphics test where the EPP performance setting hadn't helped the graphics benchmark but did noticeably drive-up the performance-per-Watt. The power saver EPP value yielded the best power efficiency with keeping the CPU clock speeds lower.
For the graphics/gaming workloads using the EPP performance setting hadn't helped the performance much due to being held up by the integrated Arc Graphics while the power-saver EPP setting was at least worthwhile for helping power efficiency while encountering lightweight games/apps that otherwise can run quite fast on a Meteor Lake system.
