Intel vs. Modesetting X.Org DDX Performance Impact
The JxRenderMark data also shows that the xf86-video-intel driver is still usually faster with these synthetic X11 2D benchmarks.
The same goes for GTK2's GtkPerf, but again, keep in mind many tool-kits have been shifting to just using OpenGL directly and in the (X)Wayland space GLAMOR is forced to be used regardless without any DDX-specific driver. Also keep in mind that Ubuntu is currently using X.Org Server 1.18.4 where as the newly released X.Org Server 1.19.0 did see more GLAMOR optimizations during its release cycle.
The most important data from today's tests and similar to our other recent tests is that for 3D/OpenGL workloads, xf86-video-modesetting doesn't lead to decreased performance. In terms of other usability differences between these two DDX drivers, see these forum comments for more details on functional differences.
