The Crafty chess benchmark is another test where the Core 2 Duo E8400 at stock and overclocked was a close competitor to the Intel Core i3 we were benchmarking under Linux.

The same goes for computational biology with MAFFT.

NASA's NAS Parallel Benchmarks are written in Fortran and heavily utilize OpenMP for being great multi-threaded benchmarks. With the EP.B test, the Core i3 530 blasted ahead of the Core 2 Duo E8400 even when the Clarkdale was running at 2.93GHz and the Wolfdale running at 3.86GHz, but the former has Hyper Threading while as the older Core 2 Duo series does not.

With the IS.C test from NPB, the Core 2 Duo E8400 was slightly ahead unlike the EP.B test.

With the UA.A test, the Core i3 530 went back to blasting ahead of its competition. With this test, even the Phenom II X3 710 was faster than the Core 2 Duo E8400 at both speeds.
