Even though the Intel Core i7 2630QM has the same maximum Turbo Frequency as the Intel Core i7 720Q, both are quad-core with Hyper Threading, and both have 6MB of L2 cache, the benefits of the Sandy Bridge architecture are certainly visible with the demanding C-Ray benchmark. The Intel Core i7 2630QM came in far ahead of the Intel Core i7 720Q, which in turn was only slightly ahead of the Intel Core i5 2520M Sandy Bridge.

With the Smallpt path tracing benchmark, Sandy's architecture is again to much benefit with even the Intel Core i5 2520M pulling ahead of the i7-720Q.

With the single-threaded POV-Ray ray-tracing benchmark, the Intel Core i5 2520M was the winner. This is not too surprising since the test is currently single-threaded and the i5-2520M is able to ramp up to 3.2GHz where as the two Core i7 mobile CPUs tap out at 2.9GHz.
