From these raw performance benchmarks, the Intel Core i7 3770K "Ivy Bridge" does extremely well under Linux. Aside from the heavily multi-threaded benchmarks where CPU core/thread count is most important, the i7-3770K was able to easily battle -- and in many cases outperform -- the Intel Core i7 3960X "Sandy Bridge" Extreme Edition processor. Next up are some thermal and power consumption results.

While idling within the Ubuntu 12.04 Unity desktop, the system configuration consuming the least amount of power was the AMD A8-3870K "Llano" Fusion APU, but that is not exactly a surprise, it's also the slowest processor that was tested. During idling the Intel Z77 motherboard with Intel Core i7 3770K was consuming 77 Watts which was also roughly the same as the Intel Core i5 2500K and Intel Core i7 3960X. The power consumption was being monitored using an USB-based WattsUp power meter that was automatically being polled every 2~3 seconds via the Phoronix Test Suite.
